Lightning strike countermeasures at schools and grounds

You can't prevent lightning strikes, but you can prevent lightning accidents

When a sports accident caused by the natural environment occurs, words such as "no way...", "unexpected...", and "unexpected" are heard. A lightning strike is one of them. Over the past few years, due to torrential downpours known as guerrilla downpours, lightning strikes have occurred frequently in unexpected areas and at different times. Therefore, since it was an area with few thunderstorms in the past, lightning countermeasures were not taken or knowledge was limited.

Major damage caused by lightning strikes at schools and playgrounds

  • There were 12 lightning rods on a nearby pillar, but a high school student was killed by lightning during a baseball practice match
  • Unusable until repair due to security camera failure (safety concerns)
  • Due to damage to the outdoor lighting facilities, the ground cannot be used at night until restoration work
  • The air conditioner cannot be used during the summer due to a malfunction of the air conditioner
  • Malfunction of the fire alarm system or failure of the receiver
  • The pool filter is out of order, making the pool unusable in the summer

A PDCE lightning rod is a lightning rod that does not strike lightning

In addition to protecting buildings such as school buildings and gymnasiums, we have set up a lightning protection area that prevents lightning strikes unique to PDCE in order to respond to sudden approaching thunderclouds during outdoor club activities. Since PDCE does not require a power supply, it is relatively easy to add new lightning protection areas using existing roofs and fence posts, and to review risk management. By installing multiple lightning protection areas, even a large number of people can be guided quickly and smoothly.
